Darood Sharif in English:

“O Allah, send your favor upon Muhammadﷺ and upon the family of Muhammadﷺ, as You sent favor upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim. You are indeed praiseworthy, glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammadﷺ and the family of Muhammadﷺ, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. You are indeed praiseworthy, glorious.”

What is the Short Version of Darood Sharif?

The shortest darood sharif we generally use is: ” Sall’allahu Alaihi Wa Aalihi Wa Salam”. (صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وآله  وَسَلَّمَ) Yet some other short durood are:

• صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ مُحَمَّدٍ

Transliteration: Sallal laho Ala-Nabi Muhammadﷺ. 

• اللَّهُمَّ صل عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

Transliteration :Allahumma Sallay Ala Muhammad ew wa-ala Ale Muhammadﷺ.

• اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ الْأُمِّيِّ، وَعَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ

Quranic Verses 

Allah said in Surah Ahzab, ayat no 56: اِنَّ اللّٰهَ وَ مَلٰٓىٕكَتَهٗ یُصَلُّوْنَ عَلَى النَّبِیِّؕ-یٰۤاَیُّهَا الَّذِیْنَ اٰمَنُوْا صَلُّوْا عَلَیْهِ وَ سَلِّمُوْا تَسْلِیْمًا(56)

Translation 

Indeed, Allah and his Angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe! Send blessings and peace upon him and send greetings on his creature.  This verse is a vital way to express the love of Allah in which the angels of Allah also send blessings to the Prophetﷺ. Hadith About the Virtues of Darood Sharif

1. Ten-Time Blessings by Allah:

Hazrat Abu Talha Ansari رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ narrated that “I asked Zaid bin Kharijah who said: ‘I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he said: Send salah upon me and strive hard in supplication, and say: Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad wa ‘ala ali Muhammad (O Allah, send salah upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad).'” (Sunan-Nisai, book al-Sahoo, hadith: 1292)

2. The Proximity of Muhammad:

Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas’ud رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ narrated that Hazrat Muhammadﷺ said: “The person closest to me on the Day of Judgement is the one who sent the most Salat upon me.” (Sunan-Tirmidhi, book al-witar, hadith no: 484)

• Hazrat Abu Huraira رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ narrated that Hazrat Muhammadﷺ said: “Those who sit in a meeting and don’t speak about Allah, nor recite durood on His Prophet Muhammadﷺ, their meeting will be a source of remorse for them. If Allah wills, he will punish them; if he wills, he will forgive them”. (Sunan-Tirmidhi, book Al-Dawat An Prophet Muhammad ﷺ( Hadith No: 3391)
